    We're Fucked

    We're Fucked

    Written by Stacey Khizder

Within the last week, 41 people have died as a result of a series of ravaging wildfires in Northern California, making 2017 the worst year for California wildfires on record.

The timing of this is directly aligned with the rise in global warming. This year, at least 15 different wildfires destroyed up to 5,700 homes and businesses. Also in 2017, California experienced record-breaking temperatures in the Bay Area.

While a large portion of the United States is under fire, the President, along with the majority of Congress, still claim that climate change is a hoax and a liberal conspiracy. Instead of acknowledging science and facts, our leadership is putting Americans in danger as they refuse to address the source of the West's deadly wildfires.

We're fucked as long as we continue to ignore the real, present, and hazardous threat that climate change poses on our planet.

    Media Wars

    Media Wars

The new Star Wars trailer is finally here

In other news, the President of the United States is continuing to wage war against the media.

Yesterday, Donald Trump tweeted that NBC is fake news, and basically threatened to "challenge" and "revoke" the network's media license as a punishment.

Threatening the media's Freedom of the Press is extremely dangerous for a country that aims to be a Democracy. In America, people have a right to know the truth. The First Amendment is designed to allow journalists to hold politicians accountable to the truth, especially the one who has the highest seat in office. Without this, politicians can get away with lying to the public, distorting the truth, which destroys the essence of freedom, liberty, and Democracy. Out of every American, the President should be the first to respect that right.

In a Democracy far, far away.... there might be a United States President without fascist tendencies. One can only hope for a leader who does not threaten the Freedom of the Press, the First Amendment, dismiss the truth, create his own alternative facts, and does not wage a war against the media.

    Stay Nasty

    Stay Nasty

After receiving criticism from Americans over his poor relief efforts in response to Hurricane Maria, Donald Trump took to Twitter to lash out against San Juan's Mayor, Carmen Yulín Cruz.

He tweeted that she has "been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump", which repeats a phrase that we've heard from Trump before: Nasty Woman.

Following up on his claims, the Mayor made a  statement on national Television by wearing a t-shirt with the word 'Nasty' in big, bold letters.

It is a shame and an embarrassment that the President spends his efforts tweeting and attacking women while natural disaster victims are pleading for their lives.

It seems to me that Trump gets intimidated by powerful women who critique him and challenge his inadequate leadership. If being 'Nasty' means to be strong, smart, and empowered, then stay Nasty

The First Amendment Doesn't Protect Our Own, Or Anyone

The First Amendment Doesn't Protect Our Own, Or Anyone

    Written by Stacey Khizder

Last night, our very own Jordan Chariton and Ty Bayliss, were arrested after covering a peaceful protest against police brutality in St. Louis, Missouri.

Not only is this an outrage, but it is a violation of the First Amendment. Without a doubt, the St. Louis police department violated our Constitution as soon as they decided that Americans did not have a right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

Law enforcement is supposed to protect Americans and their rights. There are too many instances of police living above the law, violating the Constitution, a document that they swore to abide by.

Americans pride themselves in 'freedom' and our 'Democracy'. While the protestors might have not had the proper permits to be on I-64, our journalists had every right to cover this story. Under the First Amendment, the freedom of the press entails that journalists have the legal ability to expose truth, or else, the government could get away with anything. The St. Louis police had NO right to lawfully punish them for it. Without obeying the First Amendment, there is no American freedom, and no American Democracy.

"We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced...". We will continue holding violators of the Constitution accountable.

'Uncle Cenk' Wants you to give a shit.

    Gun Control. Now.

    Gun Control. Now.

    Written by Stacey Khizder

On Tuesday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, the deadliest mass shooting in United States history took place, leaving over 50 people dead, and over 500 wounded.

Right now, I am looking at Congress to treat this as one of the worst domestic terror attacks of our time, because it is.

Our majority leaders will be silent on this and will give us nothing but thoughts and prayers, which do nothing to actually save people’s lives and prevent this from happening again. We can’t fully control the intentions of evil people. However, our representatives can do something about it, they just chose not to. To be clear, this isn't about protecting the 2nd Amendment. There is no American politician who wants to completely abolish your right to bear arms. This is a deeper problem..

Let this be a reminder that the money our leadership gets from the NRA is more important than the innocent lives lost to gun violence. We can’t overcome this as long as politicians stop taking money from organizations like the NRA. Money runs the world, compassion doesn’t.

Resist our leaderships' love for greed over saving people's lives. There needs to be gun control reform in America, and there is no question about it. Mass shootings can be preventable, so let your voices be heard. Call your representatives, organize, protest, and donate your blood to the wounded in need.
