An Ode to 2017

December 28 2017 – Tamara Estes

An Ode to 2017
An Ode to 2017

Written by Stacey Khizder

Isn't it wild that there was a time this year when Barack Obama was President? That feels like forever ago.

I remember entering 2017 having no idea how drastically the political climate was going to change. After spending a year and a half mocking the idea of a Trump presidency actually coming true, it was well on its way to becoming reality. On the first day of 2017, Los Angeles's 'Hollywood' sign read 'Hollyweed' instead. If only the rest of the years' news cycle was that vivacious.

In 2017, Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States, and his inauguration followed the first Women's March on Washington. In 2017, a U.S. President attempted to ban Muslims from entering the country, resumed construction of oil pipelines that later burst and contaminated the environment, called Neo-Nazi's 'very fine people', started a war against facts and freedom of the press, attempted to ban transgendered people from serving in the military, called for taking healthcare away from over 20 million people, pulled out of the Paris Climate Agreement, phased out the DACA program, endorsed a racist pedophile, repealed net neutrality, and signed the biggest tax scam into law.

Are you exhausted yet? Because I am. And that's not everything.

However, there's a reason that parts of Trump's agenda were only attempts. 2017 saw the rise of public Resistance. After 11 months of electing a bigot into America's highest office,  people woke up.

As we enter 2018, the Resistance is only getting stronger. 2018 is the year of midterm elections. After the year we've had with the GOP agenda in the majority and in power, I'm ready to flip the House and turn it blue. After years of silent and compliant moderate Democrats, I'm ready to vote them out and put progressives in. After years of local and state corruption, 2018 will the year of political Revolution, from the bottom up.

You survived 2017. Now, it's time to Treat Yourself. Take 25% off of our 'Resist' collection by using the code 'TREATYOSELF'!

2017 was the year of Resistance. But 2018 will be the year of Revolution.

Who's ready?
