Free Hunter Biden!

Hunter Biden is under attack. We here at TYT are known for many things, but defending the powerful is not one of them. But this situation is quite extreme. So much so that we even have a “Free Hunter Biden” t-shirt now available in our shop. So let’s catch you up on what’s been going on with the current President’s wayward spawn. 

It’s hard to pinpoint when exactly Hunter Biden Mania began to stir up the right. In 2019, a whistleblower revealed that then-President Donald Trump was pressuring Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate the Bidens. Despite having no real experience in the resource extraction industry, Hunter Biden had found himself on the board of a Ukrainian Energy company during the Obama administration. Simply put, his appointment to that position doesn’t look like a coincidence. But if it was illegal for the children of politicians to benefit from the power and fame of their parents, our prisons would be even more full than they are today. 

To aid in his political ambitions and hamper Biden’s progress as a candidate, Trump blocked $400 million in military aid to Ukraine to make them comply with his schemes. Once the White House became aware of the whistleblower, they released the funds. But the damage was already done. That fall, Trump was impeached for the first time. The following January,  the Government Accountability Office concluded the White House broke federal law by withholding military aid to Ukraine.

Just before the election in October 2020, Hunter Biden’s laptop was discovered in a computer shop in Delaware. The right fell into a frenzy. They were desperate to turn that computer into a silver bullet that would end Joe Biden’s chances at the White House. But while some of the contents of the computer were concerning, it was a big fat nothing burger. All it proved was Hunter had been living the lifestyle of a wealthy and reckless man. But his problems would not end there. 

Finally, in 2023, Hunter Biden was indicted for not paying his taxes and for lying on paper to purchase a gun. On the surface these sound rather serious. But upon closer inspection, it can be said that these are minor offenses that are being blown out of proportion. First, the taxes. Hunter has been accused of avoiding paying $1.4 million in taxes over four years. Since being indicted, Hunter has settled his tax bill. So, essentially, he has gone from avoiding taxes to paying them late. Which is still a violation. But paying your taxes late is not a rare occurrence.

Next the gun charge. This one is a bit more serious. Hunter has been indicted and convicted of lying on federal form. In 2018, Hunter lied on a mandatory gun-purchase form by saying he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs at the time of purchase. He had the gun for eleven days before his then-girlfriend disposed of it. During the trial, the prosecution was able to show that he was using crack cocaine in 2018. But he never did anything with the gun and the law he broke was so vague that any user, including weed users, could be prosecuted for this. A normal person would not have been prosecuted for this and even Republicans like Matt Gaetz and Lindsey Graham agree. 

This whole thing has been a circus. We aren’t here to defend the children of wealthy elites, but this is undeniably a politically motivated prosecution. Republicans have been whining about Hunter for years and now they’ve got him. He made a mistake on a form and now they’ve convicted him to “own the libs” and hurt Joe Biden’s campaign. Is what he did illegal? Absolutely. But so is Jaywalking and you don’t see a ton of people getting tied up in the court system for that. TYT is not pro-Hunter Biden. But we are against Republican shenanigans. So free Hunter Biden.
